THE UNBORN(2009) Casey is a young lady who is being haunted by visions of a creepy boy who seems to be stalking her, as the story unfolds we find out this ghost has been haunting her family for 2 generations and was responsible for the death of her twin brother while they were still in the womb, and also the death of her mother , she seeks the help of a rabbi to help stop the curse before it kills her. This is a movie with a good premise but failed execution , its a supernatural thriller based on Jewish mysticism , the visual scares ( or what try to be scares) seem to be heavily influenced by Japanese horror such as THE RING and THE GRUDGE , a style I'm sick of and never found to be scary , its also filled with attempts at jump scares that don't work, pretty tame stuff , not much to offer. The ending leaves it open for a sequel, lets hope it never gets made.

THE STRANGERS(2008) Wow! I wasn't expecting much from this but was pleasantly surprised, this is an effectively grim, well-made horror film. A couple go to a secluded vacation home after attending a wedding and are terrorized by three strangers throughout the night, the visits become increasingly violent and disturbing with each encounter until the movie concludes with its grim ending. Terrifying stuff , the antagonists are so callous , cold and calculating its truly unsettling , and the fact that this kind of stuff can really happen makes it even more effective. Highly recommended.

THE PUMPKIN KARVER(2006) Jonathan and his sister, Lynn, move to a new town to start a new life after Johnathan killed his sister's boyfriend accidentally in a Halloween prank gone wrong . They attend a Halloween party a year later but it seems that the man Johnathan killed has come back from the dead to get revenge and proceeds to kill Johnathan and Lynn's friends and carves up their faces to resemble jack o lanterns. The makers of this movie seem to be trying to make some kind of 80's style slasher homage , but this is filled with obnoxious characters , bad acting and cheap fx , while not terrible , it ultimately fails.

BOY EATS GIRL(2005) In the wake of SHAUN OF THE DEAD there has been a glut of zombie comedies and this is just one of many. Nathan is a high school student who kills himself and his mother brings him back to life via a voodoo ritual not realizing it turns him into a flesh craving zombie. After he is resurrected he doesn't realize what has happened to him,he gets in a fight with a school bully ,bites him and unwittingly sets off a zombie outbreak . While not great by any means this is fun to watch with some good gore effects , the comedy bits do not work very well but the teenage love story parts do , so its kind of a mixed bag.

DRIVE THRU (2007) D.U.M.B -stupid , this movie is an utterly ridiculous horror/ comedy that is neither funny or horrifying , the gore is crappy and the jokes are sub-sophomoric, whoever decided to green light this thing must have been high. In the town of CARNE BLANCA (Spanish for WHITE MEAT for those who don't speak the language) , Horny the clown, the mascot for a popular fast food chain named HELLA BURGER, is on a killing spree carving up the local teens with his axe from hell. The reason for the killing is lifted right out of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET , a supernatural killer stalking the offspring of the people who set him on fire , Horny (god that's horrible) even spouts off dumb one liners just like FREDDY KRUEGER . Terrible ,avoid at all cost.

SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD(2010) George Romero's latest entry in his living dead films , while not great is still a very enjoyable movie , an opinion it seems i don't share with very many others as this has been getting terrible reviews. Out of the last 3 films in the series , i like it better than LAND... but not as much as DIARY..... . Like most Romero films its filled with social commentary and plenty of gore , unlike most of his films he tries to inject lots of humor, the reason i believe so many were disappointed with this. As far as timeline goes this takes place right after DIARY.. but before LAND... , the story concerns a group of soldiers who desert their unit and escape to an island where the inhabitants are divided among those who want to kill the zombies and those who want to train them. Not his best but still worth a watch.

CREEP(2004) Franka Potente ( Run Lola run , Anatomy, the Bourne identity) stars as a business woman who falls asleep in the London subway while awaiting her train , when she awakens she finds she has been locked in ,while trying to find a way out she is stalked by a mutant killer who lives in the tunnels. While flawed , mainly because Potentes character is an extremely unlikable person and you really don't care if she lives or not and the fact that the motivation of the killer is never made clear , this is still a fairly enjoyable slasher/gore film. This one reminds me alot of the 1972 film RAW MEAT. Nothing great but worth a watch if your a horror completest like me and feel like you need to watch everything.

HOBOKEN HOLLOW(2005) Its all here torture , gore, rape and cannibalism , in this" Texas Chainsaw "style low budgeter . After being offered jobs as ranch hands ,homeless drifters are in for the fight of their lives battling the brutal Broderick family at Hoboken Hollow, a remote West Texas ranch . If the workers try to escape they are hunted down and when caught they are tortured , hung and made into human jerky, yum!!. This ones got a couple of brutal moments made more disturbing knowing this was based partially on a true story( it really was , i researched it and found news paper articles and court records , pretty sick stuff) . The great B movie cast makes this more watchable than it probably would be otherwise , Dennis Hopper , Michael Madsen ,Greg Evagan , C. Thomas Howell, Lin Shaye and Robert Carridine all make appearances in this silly but fun film.

FEAR ASYLUM A.K.A ROOM 33 (2009) A roller derby team , along with a couple they picked up , are stranded and must spend the night in an abandoned asylum. They soon find out there are horrible supernatural things afoot and they struggle to stay alive through the night. This one starts out pretty good but soon grinds to a screeching halt with long drawn out scenes of the characters walking the halls of the asylum trying to figure out whats going on and yelling and cursing at each other and not much else, pretty boring. The villain is not scary at all and other than he was a doctor that once worked there and was killed we never find out how he has returned as some kind of supernatural demon. So unless you need to learn some new insults or curse words there is no need to watch.

TAMARA (2006) This plays out extremely similar to the Japanese film "Tomie", it is about a girl who is seen as a loser by her classmates and is picked on constantly and they joke that she’s a witch ( she is) .When some of the kids at school decide to pull a prank on her , she is led to a hotel room and embarrassed , she freaks out and during a struggle Tamara is killed and buried in the forest. Like in many other films , she comes back from the dead with supernatural powers and kills the kids responsable. Not bad but this was obviously made for the younger crowd and seems rather juvinile to my old ass. Fun but flawed.
