PROM NIGHT(2008) First off this has absolutly nothing in common with the 1980 slasher film of the same name except for the title and the fact it takes place at a prom. There is very little gore here but it is PG-13 so i wasnt expecting it anyway , by the way the original was kinda skimpy in the blood department also. Im absolutely sick of all of the remake /re-imaginings being released so I went into this expecting to hate it but i found found myself somewhat enjoying it , yes its flawed and has a few lapses in logic but its still not a bad movie , this was made to appeal to the teen crowd and i can see why they would enjoy it ,the characters are likable and the actors are believable in there role, it doesnt look like a bunch of 30 year olds trying to play teens and the story moves along at a pretty good pace . Ive spent 90 min. watching worse . An unrated DVD is available .

THE SCI - FI BOYS(2006) This is a wonderful documentary that is simply a homage to the monster and science fiction movie makers and writers from the 1930's - 1970's, it focuses mainly on founder and editor of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND magazine Forest J. Akerman , special effects legend Ray Harryhausen and writer Ray Bradbury , and is filled with interviews from fx artists and directors like Peter Jackson and Rick Baker talking about how they were influenced by these pioneers. You can tell that this was a labor of love for the filmakers , its a heart warming fun look at the past for fanboys like myself who grew up on theses films and magazines .Recomended

DRACULA VS FRANKENSTEIN(1971) " The kings of horror battle to the death!" screams the poster for this Al Adamson drive in classic. Pretty typical for an Adamson film, bad acting , flimsy plot but still a fun way to spend 90 min.
This essentially is an update of the UNIVERSAL PICTURES monster mash-ups of the 40's updated for the 1960's /70's . Dracula blackmails an elderly DR. Frankenstein into resurecting his monster and so he can have the blood of the monsters victims. If for no other reason horror fans should watch this for the final screen apperances of Lon Chany Jr. and J.Carol Nash. As a bonus there is a guest apperance by Forrest J. Akerman and the goofiest Dracula ever commited to celluloid. You can watch the movie at this link . > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaZWGNVUQoI

DAUGHTERS OF SATAN(1972) Tom Selleck plays James an art buyer who purchases a painting of witches being burned at the stake , one of the witches in the painting looks very similar to his wife , after a while she starts behaving strangely and gradually she seems to become possessed by the witch , she becomes friends with two other women who are also possessed by the other witches in the painting and they begin to plan James' death, as it seems that he is a descendant of the man responsible for the witches being burned at the stake .This cheapy was shot in the Philippines by the guy who directed the 70's children's TV show HR PUFFINSTUFF. Its filled with bad acting and silly dialog and would benefit from a quicker pace but this is one of those schlock cinema classics that most B-movie fans will want to see.

WIND CHILL(2007) Two college students are on there way home for Christmas vacation when they are run off the road by a passing car into a snowbank and get stranded on a deserted road, through out the film they are haunted by the ghosts of other travelers who have died in the area. Wind chill is a decent horror film that has some suspense and decent atmosphere , it's nothing special mind you, but it is still better than alot of the other junk released in the last few years.
The film makers deserve props for trying to tell an old fashioned ghost story instead of making another torture porn style flick and even though they fall a little short its decent and worth a look.

BEYOND THE DARKNESS (1980) AKA BUIO OMEGA , BURIED ALIVE : This is the story of a necrophiliac cannibal taxidermist by Italian gore miester Joe D'Amato. When our main characters girlfriend dies he stuffs her body , keeps it in his bed, then kills and taxidermy's other woman in extremely graphic and gory scenes. This movie is so nasty me and a former roommate invited some ladies over on Halloween to watch some horror movie and after we put this one on the young ladies were so appalled they told us we were sick disgusting pieces of trash , told us to never call them again and walked out the door. We finished our movie night and drank beer . Id say we got the better end of the deal. If your a gore hound this is a must see.

THE BOOGENS(1981) 4 mine surveyors are hired to explore a silver mine that has been closed for a hundred years to see whether or not it is worth reopening. After they do some blasting they soon find out that they've released the title creatures which look kinda like turtles with tentacles and nasty sharp teeth . The monsters are pretty silly looking when finally revealed but that doesn't come until late in the film so its not a major issue . This is a fun little flick that is not very well known and kind of hard to find ( TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES aired it this past Halloween) but its worth seeking out if your into 80's cheese , it starts out slow but really picks up the pace in the second half. Dumb but fun , check it out if you can.

THE DEVILS BRIDE aka THE DEVIL RIDES OUT (1968) This Hammer production is one of my favorite films of the 1960's. Christopher Lee , in one of his few roles as a hero plays a man who's Friend Simon has joined a satanic cult and plans to be baptised in the name of the dark lord. Lee with the help of 2 other Friends are on a mission to stop the ceremony and must overcome satanic obstacles along the way. This film adaption of Dennis Wheatlys novel "THE DEVIL RIDES OUT" is an absolutely wonderful atmospheric horror movie that is a must see for HAMMER fans, the screenplay is written by the great Richard Matheson. Highly recommended.

SWAMP OF THE RAVENS(1974) The swamp in the title is where mad DR. Frosta dumps bodies after he is finished conducting re-animation and mind control experiments, the only problem is they are now the undead and are ready to rise and fight with with the Doc. Made by the same people who brought us "VOODOO BLACK EXORCIST" , this all but forgotten B - movie is at times incoherent but is still worth seeking out if your into 1970's drive in movie horrors. On a double bill DVD with "THE THIRSTY DEAD" from SOMETHING WEIRD VIDEO.

HORROR HOUSE ON HIGHWAY 5(1985) WOW!! Amazing! Amazing that someone would actually film crud like this and release it! I'm usually a fan of bad cinema , the so bad its good type of thing , but my goodness , you have to draw the line somewhere.
I would try to explain this thing to you but i cant , nothing here makes sense at all , no continuity to speak of , just a bunch of scenes filmed and edited together without any common ground between them, this must have been made by a schizophrenic. I cant find the right words to describe it, this is beyond bad.

A KNIFE FOR THE LADIES (1974) aka JACK THE RIPPER GOES WEST.
A psycho with a kinfe is on the lose killing women. Nothing new there but props to the makers for trying something a little different here. What sets this one apart from others is that its a mix of the horror and western genres. Its actually pretty enjoyable movie but works better as a western than a horror film. It kinda reminds me a little of tv shows like GUNSMOKE or the like with a few mildly bloody knife killings. Enjoyable.

SPOOKED:THE GHOSTS OF WAVERLY HILLS SANATORIUM(2006) A SCI-FI channel made for TV documentary about a haunted T.B hospital outside of Louisville ,Kentucky. This is very enjoyable but the scariest parts of the movie are not the evp's and ghost photos presented as evidence but the historians talking about the history and treatment of the patients at the hospital. If your into TV shows such as GHOST HUNTERS and PARANORMAL STATE you'll probably enjoy this. Recommended.

BLACK ROSES(1988) Heavy metal band Black Roses decide to start their world tour with a series of concerts in the small town of Mill Basin , the only problem is the band is really a group of demons who are there to possess the local youth and intice them to do evil deeds in attempt to litterily create a hell on earth. This was released during the era of the PMRC and when the conservitive government of the 80's were creating a huge aproar about rock music corrupting the youth of America , this is a fun response to just how silly all of it was. Filled with cheesy 80's goodness and a decent hair metal soundtrack.

THE LAUGHING DEAD(1989) A priest who is losing his faith takes a busload of people to Mexico to study" the festival of the dead" , an Aztec god of death starts sacrificing people and the priest gets possessed then the blood start to flow. This starts out as a serious horror film then deteriorates into a stupid slapstick comedy/horror hybrid then gets serious again. If they would remove the comedy parts this would be a good gore fim otherwise its only a fair , mixed bag at best.
